Nadia and Carol
Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej currently Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born on November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to be awarded a score of 10 at the Olympic event. Bela Karrolyi, an Romanian gymnastics instructor who later became Comaneci's coach, first discovered Comaneci at the age of six. Comaneci participated for the first time at the national junior championships, placing 13th. In the following year, she won the title of champion. In her 1972 first international competition in an preolympics junior event for nations in the Communist bloc, she was awarded three gold medals. Then in 1973 and 1975, she won named the all-around Junior Champion. At her first competition as a senior in 1975 she bested the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva who was a five-time European champion, winning four gold and one silver medal. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first woman to perform the backward double salto in a dismount from the uneven parallel bars. Carol Wayne.........................Carol Wayne was an American film and TV actor best recognized for portraying Art Fern's Tea-Time Movie Lady on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. As a teenager Carol Wayne started working in the entertainment industry by performing in the form of a figure skater. Together with her younger sister Nina Wayne she was part of a show that traveled called Ice Capades. Carol Marie Wayne, born in Chicago Illinois US on 6 September 1942. Carol was a professional in the world of entertainment in her teens. As a young girl she started her career as the figure skater alongside Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment program Ice Capades. The shows were the ice skating of which was accompanied by theatrical music.
